Priolo: industry, labor, pollution and tourism

My VCR, this week has worked all the time: many were the news, specials and special sections that dealt with the case Enichem-Priolo.
I was able to review the episode of "Eight and a half" in which Minister of La7, politicians, trade unions and so on. discussed the case Priolo, after reports of "national" in recent days.

No one can deny either the 'damage' to the ecosystem or harm to human health.

course fish and shellfish can neither speak nor complain of "progress" are the most innocent victims sacrificed on the altar of the Holocaust industry.
can not speak the "therapeutic abortions, children born dead, already buried the dead of cancer.
could speak, but for some reason fail to do so, those "still alive" that pay the consequences of pollution on their skin. Elsewhere
probably someone, maybe you would be revolted. But here the suffering is matched by the silence.
certainly can not "talk" even other living beings in the "Triangle of Doom": the terrestrial and marine flora.

They can not even complain about the stones' rich culture and history buried beneath the concrete casting of the petrochemical or unattainable within its perimeter.
course, all of the ecosystem - not only man or only some men - would have liked to talk on the air, all the components of the ecosystem, would have meant their interviewers declined here in recent days from Rome or Milan , say something about the national press.
Certainly no one can deny that the problem has existed for over twenty years and is extremely serious. At that time (1980 after the births of malformed Augusta), the Board specifically addressed by the Ministry of Health proposed to collect the data, "but it all remained a dead letter: the fear, or rather, the" blackmail " had already won! And everything went on as before, even worse than before. But by contrast
ago the news that the area south and west of Syracuse has been defined by UNESCO "World Heritage" and the other world body, the WHO may also declare officially the rest of the province of Siracusa, in the north, "the dustbin of Humanity."
It surfaced the other big issue: that of disposing of waste.
One part is dispersed in the atmosphere: the fumes are still unable to see;
the other hand, we do not know how much, and ended up at sea and in the basement, another part aspetta, nelle discariche – più o meno autorizzate – di essere trattata.
It is not our fault if Augusta and Priolo talk about it like this: we must admit, a considerable part of the Syracuse area is no longer the 'paradise "of the past. Not more environmentalists are talking about: are the figures, the evidence of the disaster that can no longer be hidden away.

Against environmentalist, has launched the accusation, as usual, "enemy of progress" "alarm" and whoever says that the environment of the Syracuse area is heavily polluted and there are health risks does to lose their jobs.
But who would do the bathroom (knowingly) in the sea contaminated by mercury, by chromium, nickel? Who would ever walk on a beach (deserted) to breathe the stench of the nearby industrial area? Who would run the risk of staying in the middle of a place where health and life itself are under constant threat?
not enough to put the palms on the beach, only twenty meters from the smokestacks, to say that you can bathe safely.
In a shameless, but false, politicians and trade unionists are still going to talk about "the possible coexistence" between industrialization and tourism. Some would still hypocritically "your cake and eat it too."
foolish choices of politicians and unions, always pass over the heads of the inhabitants of the "triangle" now become (with the settlement dell'ISAB) a "quadrilateral", boycotted the tourism considered "poorer" than industrial development.
Today, in other parts of Italy and also of Sicily itself, tourism pulls us thinking about biting the hand on occasion lost.
Our sea is (= was) far more beautiful and more inviting than that of the Romagna coast.
The province of Siracusa had nothing to envy to Messina, where the small Taormina, outperformed the "magna" Syracuse.
The mild climate, beautiful scenery, rich historical, cultural and archaeological Syracuse and its province to the north, south, west, would give the right value in time and with time another "development" more real, more suited to the vocation of the territory.
Ironically, just over a year, with a regional decree, which seems worthy of a novel Guareschi, Augusta boasts (but not benefits) of the title of the city "a prevailing tourist"! Does not it seem absurd?

It 's true that in the territory of Augusta hotels we are able as Brucoli Village (Ex Valtur), but the tourists, you know, not only to sleep and eat: they want to see, want to know. They want to turn and dive in an enriching, from the cultural point of view. We must be careful when it comes to tourism: do not think Priolo and Melito are "resorts". It will be a little Sortino and the Val d'Anapo; Solarino are tourist or perhaps Florida or Villasmundo? In Syracuse the tourist stops now average a day or two, and Brucoli to Augusta, where tourism could be a resource to be exploited, those who are not can only watch from a distance or behind locked gates the Hangar, the strong and Garcia Victoria, The Castles of Brucoli and Augusta; Hyblaea Megara (the "Greek Pompeii") is left to itself, the coasts are prohibited from bathing bans, etc.. And 'this tourism?
When the industry took off in the Syracuse area had to be counterbalanced by the decline of tourism.
The tourist from Syracuse ran for many other reasons: the lack of services, lack of receptivity to the lack of "hospitality". Maybe Syracuse, in terms of tourism revenue will continue to live and traditions, but Augusta, Priolo and Melissa are not Syracuse once had a different economy now completely transformed.
The northern part of the province of Siracusa not live off tourism, "live" (ie, die) industry. I would not rekindle old controversy: is it true that Augusta, Priolo and Melilla "belong" to the province of Siracusa, but can not be reduced to just "vassal" of the capital.
Unfortunately, in these circumstances, it is inevitable that the entire territory for better or worse, suffer.
Dear politicians, businessmen, trade unionists, let me tell you frankly my belief: When Saddam Hussein in 1991, began their retreat from Kuwait, gave the order to blow up the oilfields. When
industry will withdraw from this territory - is inevitable - think that tourism is around the corner? Think what will leave behind.

In Japan, to reclaim the bay of Minamata, mercury, it took 23 years and here, well know, there's only mercury: Do you think to clean up the "triangle" needed a few days? I know why in ten years, while there is money for the reclamation of the "triangle" you have not spent a penny? But we truly believe that tourism is for us the resource of the future? Or perhaps, not to admit defeat, you want to pretend that certain processes are compatible with the presence of man? Or that tourism and pollution can get along? Only the naive can believe that. And tourists are not sure of the unwary, like you.
The only remediation performed on this area so far has been to "Marina di Melissa" where the inhabitants had to move out to "make room" to what is hypocritically called "progress."
